Fishing Report - Massachusetts Bay and Cape Cod

Capt. Rich Antonino
October 29, 2007
Stellwagen Bank - Saltwater Fishing Report

October 21, Sunday

Well, not the best catching day for tuna--zero, but we did have two fish on. It's always amazing when these fish hit--we have had them hit the lure micro-seconds after it hits the water and we've had them hit just as the angler is taking it out of the water for another cast. We had some foggy conditions today, making it difficult to run-and-gun on breaking fish--we couldn't see anything! We had a few chances on fish, but the season is coming to an end.

We fished today off of Peaked Hill Bar and Race Point. It's the best bet right now to find tuna. There were lots of fish here on Thursday, and we hooked 5 of them to 90 pounds. We also had a giant tuna slam a lure but miss it! Yes, we are using spinning gear for these fish! It's amazing. It's basically chasing bluefish, but on a much grander scale!!!

This will be my last report until March--my season is over with the closure of the cod grounds and the winter winds coming in.

Also, my back is shot, and a surgery may be needed. That's no fun. What a great year we've had. I mean, we started fishing in April and we just didn't stop. Please check out my website over the winter for early-season booking specials and even gear deals from various companies.

We'll be focusing next spring on two things--light tackle/shallow water cod/haddock fishing in April and May and the best sea bass run on the East Coast starting in mid-May. At the end of May, we'll have porgies (scup) by the boatful for those of you interested. And then the tuna come in in June....I can't wait.

Have a great winter! Capt. Rich Antonino

We're the small charter specialists for private 1-4 person groups and shared charters. We fish where the fish are--cod/haddock on Stellwagen Bank, huge sea bass in Buzzards Bay, bluefin tuna on Stellwagen Bank, sharks off of Martha's Vineyard and Wildcat Knoll, Stripers off of Provincetown. We have a great website; visit us often and meet us as friends. We have lots of fun out there and cater to both the novice and veteran alike. Our rates are great and you don't have to get 6 people!!
