Stellwagen Bank - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing this weekend at Race Point, we found some very nice stripers that were happy to take our offerings. And by offerings, I mean light-tackle spinning and jigging gear. We were tossing sluggos, small bucktails, and swimbaits into surface schools of fish and just having a blast. It's my kind of fishing, that's for sure. Lots of casting, moving the boat around, sight fishing, and fun battles. We found fish mainly on the fishfinder in deeper water around the breaks and rips. From time-to-time, we sighted surface schools while standing on the roof of my cabin. It's a great place to sight these fish. The biggest fish was 39" on Monday and it was caught on a freshwater rod! A close second-place was jigged up off of the bottom in deep water using my new Okuma Red Isis baitcaster. Very cool reel. Sharp looking as well, for those of you who are vain.
The bluefish were around, but we didn't mind as they really fight great. My sluggos didn't like them, but that's fishing. Inside of Plymouth Harbor, today, we found great schools of bass busting for a good mile of flats! It was great fishing. Some of the fish were caught in 4 feet of water! They really run on the flats.
Although I didn't have a charter today, I had my family and friends out there for a lot of fun.
On other notes, the last two weeks of July are some of the primest weeks there are for fishing around here and I do have weekday space if you have some time off and want to do some fishing. We'd love to get you out there--it's time for some great weather, great fun, and great fishing. And if you want to start the day fishing for something truly memorable--think a combo trip starting with bluefin tuna.
Last note--Thursday, July 17, I'm running a shared shark trip if you are interested
