Stellwagen Bank - Saltwater Fishing Report

Today's trip was the best trip of the year, short 10'. That is to say, we weren't intending on tuna fishing on today's shared charter, but the tuna blitz that we saw was the best bite I've ever witnessed. Half of the fish were 150-200 pounds and the rest were 400+. We had the first fish to the boat in 20 minutes, but it threw the hook when it rolled over on the surface. The second fish....Joel St. Germain hooked them both on white/red-headed tunaCandy which he allowed to sink into the fray...the second fish was wrapped around the tail and it was a bona-fide giant. No chance at this fish, which broke us off ABOVE THE 6' LEADER!
So..we went cod fishing... The drift was slow, so we hit a few rockpiles and picked at cod, pollack, and haddock. We then made a decent move to end the day and hit paydirt. We put 40+ fish on the deck in an hour of fishing. I was a filleting machine after that time! Incredible day and 28 mph ride home with me filleting! Loved that day.
