100+ whales and tons of cod on Stellwagen Bank

Capt. Rich Antonino

Stellwagen Bank - Saltwater Fishing Report

Today....looking around we must have been doing something right...My customer at one point said "look at the other boats--we're the only ones catching fish!" It was cool but true for a while---we were both using spinning rods and having a blast. I had an Okuma VS80 while he brought his own Okuka VS55. It was small, but effective. At one point, I took 6 casts and caught 6 consecutive keepers. 5 of them were cod and one was a 12 pound pollack. Very nice fight on spinning gear. Why did Luhr Jensen stop making the Deep Stinger!! Aaarghh.

We took our time getting home---Joe took a nice nap in the sun while sitting on the swingback chair in the cockpit. Not rushing around at all--amazing! The mackerel were in thick outside of Green Harbor, so I dropped off my customer and went back fishing for bait--loading up almost 200 mackerel for bait for later...all nice tinker mackerel!! Wonderful. I heard today that the striper bite in Buzzards Bay is amazing!! I want to get out there on Monday in the great weather if you're interested in fishing, we can fish Buzzards Bay for stripers, black sea bass, and porgy. Or, we can beat up on some more cod, haddock, and pollack!! Give us a call. Still can't believe I do this for a living, Rich Antonino, Black Rose Fishing Charters

Target Species:

cod, pollack, haddock

We're the small charter specialists for private 1-4 person groups and shared charters. We fish where the fish are--cod/haddock on Stellwagen Bank, huge sea bass in Buzzards Bay, bluefin tuna on Stellwagen Bank, sharks off of Martha's Vineyard and Wildcat Knoll, Stripers off of Provincetown. We have a great website; visit us often and meet us as friends. We have lots of fun out there and cater to both the novice and veteran alike. Our rates are great and you don't have to get 6 people!!
