Offshore Improves

REPORT FROM GARY GRAHAM, BAJA ON THE FLY -

THE ORVIS EXPEDITION COMPANY OF THE YEAR FOR 1999.

EAST CAPE, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO

Sat., June 30, 2001

TEMPERATURES: High of 95 with a low of 74. Little wind for the last few days

STRIPED MARLIN – Good show between La Ribera Punta Colorada out 5 – 10 miles.

YELLOWFIN TUNA - Slow

DORADO – The boats that traveled long distances did well.

ROOSTERFISH – Good from the beach as well as inshore.

JACK CREVALLE – Slowed down for the larger ones.

BARRILLETE OR MEXICAN SKIPJACK – Plenty in front of La Ribera.

PARGO AND CABRILLA – Cold green, dirty water slowed the action down at Punta Colorada.

.. OFFSHORE: Good marlin show off of Punta Colorada

.. INSHORE: Off color water slowed the action down except for in front of Punta Ignacio.and La RIbera

.. BEACH: Roosterfish and sierra dominated the catch this week..

.. QUICK COMMENT – Dario Travaini and Jack Miller, Phoenix, AZ had a great day yesterday catching and releasing skipjack. They caught over fifty between the two of them. Fred Chambers and Merle W. “Chip” Hidinger, Phoenix, AZ decided to go after the Dorado and were rewarded with several nice sized dorado.

MAGDALENA BAY, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO

Sat., June 30, 2001

Temperatures: 82-degree high; low in the mid 69. Partly Cloudy skies.

TUNA – Few reported.

YELLOWTAIL – Not much action.

CORVINA – Try under the bridge on the way into town. And also near the Boca’s to the North

SNOOK – Good catches continue in Almejas Bay.

HALIBUT – Several of the Boca’s producing fair catches. .

.. QUICK COMMENT – Summer conditions have settled in and the fishing throughout the Esteros from the North to the South has been productive. Pargo, grouper, snook and corvina all taken sub-surface this week. Chartreuse Clousers with red eyes have been the hot fly.
