EAST CAPE, MAGDALENA BAY AND ZIHUATANEJO CONDITIONS
EAST CAPE, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO
IN GENERAL: Some off-color water closer to shore backed up with some wind
slowed the action down or at least convinced most of the guests to kick
back, relax, enjoy the sun and suck up a margarita or two. Those who did go
out traveled a little further to get to the clean water, but they were not
disappointed. Football-size tuna, quality dorado and a few marlin rewarded
the tenacious. Back inshore, the big jacks and roosters are giving everybody
the heebie-jeebies. Wind or not, early the other morning both were whacking
the mullet and ballyhoo schools out in front of Punta Colorada, and,
according to
the eyewitnesses, it was an awesome site. Throw some larger patterns in your
bag and come on down to pick a fight with one of these bruisers and we will
see who wins.

It is our "roostie" that fooled quite a few of the big guys last year.

· OFFSHORE: A little further offshore this week, but they just keep
coming!
Dorado, marlin and even a good supply of football-sized tuna.
· INSHORE: The white water is not from the wind. It is a bunch of big,
aggressive, roosters and jacks exercising their God-given right to eat every
last mullet and ballyhoo they can find.
· BEACH: Punta Colorada. Early morning. Big flies. How good is that!
BILLFISH - A little slower this week. It may be that fewer boats targeted
them with the dorado and tuna going off.
YELLOWFIN TUNA - Look for the porpoise and hang on.
DORADO - Look out, here they come. Hide the 8-weights, these are the
12-weight variety.
ROOSTERFISH - Change your backing before you get here. Catch one of these
from the beach and you will have bragging right for a long time to come.
JACK CREVALLE - Oops! The smaller ones got bigger quick, several in the
20-pound class on the beach from Punta Colorada to the lighthouse.
BARRILETE OR MEXICAN SKIPJACK - Not exactly the first choice right now.
PARGO AND CABRILLA - Chuck and duck took on a new meaning when casting into
the bait schools. Several BIG pargo were spotted mixed in with everything
else feeding on the bait schools.
SIERRA - Still hanging in there, but no one wants to use wire with all the
rooster action.
MAGDALENA BAY, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO
Wed., March 19, 2003
IN GENERAL: Light pressure this week with few guests at the hotels. Best
action continued up toward Devil’s Curve where a few smaller snook were
found in the deep holes on the west side of the channel a mile or so before
the curve. The Baja Deep Diver in red did the trick.

YELLOWTAIL - Should happen any day; so far it has been slow this spring.
CORVINA - Good show up at the power plant.
SNOOK - Right place, right time, right fish, fish of a lifetime.
HALIBUT - Try any of the sandy beaches with chartreuse Clouser.
SIERRA - Spread out throughout the open bay.
