East Cape - Not all bad

Capt. Mark Rayor

Buena Vista - Saltwater Fishing Report

East Cape - Not all bad
86 degree water and calm seas have continued this week. We did get a stiff breeze in the afternoon a few days and there have also been some thunder showers. This is our rainy season and it is a very pleasant sight to watch our desert turn from brown to a tropical looking jungle.

Marlin, sailfish and roosterfish have pretty much been the only game in town. The marlin and sails don't seem to be concentrated. Anglers are having events just a few miles from La Ribera, Punta Arena and Punta Pescadero but billfish are also being caught 20 to 30 miles offshore by boats in search of porpoise schools and tuna. The spotted and spinner dolphin have been difficult to find and not holding tuna when discovered.

A few weeks ago down south El Farito and the San Luis were hot for tuna and wahoo but for the last week more boats have blanked than had success and it hasn't been worth the 2 hour run to get there.

It is not all bad though. Yellowfin tuna are being sighted on the La Ribera high spot. They haven't wanted to bite but my bet is they will get hungry soon. Roosterfish have been in all the usual places and bending rods. Also, other sea life sightings have been spectacular with turtles, common dolphin, risso dolphin and a variety of whale species.

Vaquera came equipped with this fighting chair. It was good for holding rod but not too comfortable for sitting.

We commissioned master craftsman Lupe Diaz to build a custom back

Now not only is there a comfortable back we have a rigging table with the all important beer holders and also lots of storage.
