HEADLINES: May 11, 2015:
Looks as if JC is acting a little paranoid these days. I walked into his office to get info. For the weekly fishing report and I noticed workers installing a large cone above his desk. I said:"whats this thing JC" He replied: Its the "Cone of Silence" you Dork"I have spies who are taking all my Marlin secrets and its going to end"I said: You got to be kidding me!! And JC replied: Its guys like you I dont trust and then he went on to accuse me of stealing recipes from his Ebook "As the Admiral Seas it, Recipes from My Heart"and he went further saying I was giving up vital Marlin information to his competitors. He said I was stealing secret Marlin documents from his safe in his office. He then said he would like to test the "Cone of Silence" with me to see how it works. At that point I told this wako I had a report to write and I going. We will keep you posted next week on how the test went.

Jc Sportfishing Charters is a family owned and operated business and has been fishing in Cabo San Lucas for the past 18 years. Jerry, explains that his charter business is geared more for families and novice anglers, making sure everyone who charters a boat with him have a great time and lots of fun. We welcome families, and groups. We want everyone who fishes with us to take all the sites in and have a memorable experience. This is what is most important to us. We have and do a few tournaments each year and can cater to fisherman who might be interested in tournament fishing. Well lets get on with the fishing report for this past week.
WEATHER: Well, finally the wind has calmed and we are having great weather again. The wind beat us up most of last week and now as I am writing this report its pretty darn calm and sunny. This week has been all sunny days with highs in the mid 80,s to low 90,s and lows in the mid 60,s too low 60,s. The windy conditions last week were really affecting our fishing conditions as we were getting really blown away in the afternoons coming in from fishing. Quite the boat rides.
WATER: Wow, its like night and day from the pacific side to the Cortez side, quite the contrast in water temperatures. Cold water conditions have brought in the Yellowtail finally and the line between cold water and warm water is right around Palmilla if you check the Tempbreak map you will see the line. Water went down to 71 right outside the Cabo Bay and then got colder on the Pacific side up and around the Finger Baja where it was dipping down to 69 degrees. Wow, pretty cool conditions, are you sure this isn't LA!!

BILLFISH: Marlin fishing has slowed somewhat and the wind has seemed to stop finally. The Marlin is everywhere it seems, from the 1150 to the San Jamie,but they all seem to be full of squid and aren't biting too well. The Marlin that isnt full of squid have been hitting live bait, ballyhoo and lures and the best area to land a fish is off the Light House about 2 miles.
DORADO: The fishing for Dorado has really slowed and it looks as if they have moved on for this week. It has been so weird this year for Dorado as they should have been gone a long time ago; but they have been hanging out and it has been really hit and miss for them all year, but at least they have stayed in the area and not left us.
WAHOO: I have not heard of any this past week. Not too much Wahoo action right now.
TUNA: We should start to see some Tuna start to show soon. There hasn't been any around the last 5 weeks, but really you never know. If the water temperatures stay like this I wouldn't be surprised to start seeing them roll into the area.
INSHORE: So the inshore action has mainly been Skip Jack, Sierras and Yellowtail and there has been not really too hot of action on all three species. The fact we are catching good numbers of Skip Jack is a good indicator that maybe some Tuna will start to show up soon. However you look at it if you go out in a Panga or small boat and do some inshore fishing you will most likely do pretty good as there is suc an abundance of fish here in the Los Cabos area that its hard to get skunke.

Blackened Yellowtail Snapper with Mango Salsa
Ingredients
1 cup cubed ripe mango $
1/2 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
1/4 cup chopped red onion
1 jalapeno pepper, minced
2 tablespoons fresh lime juice $
2 (6-ounce) skinless yellowtail snapper fillets
1 tablespoon melted butter
2 tablespoons prepared blackened or jerk seasoning
Preparation
Combine mango and next 4 ingredients in a bowl. Cover and chill until ready to serve. Brush snapper with melted butter, and coat both sides with seasoning. Heat a large cast-iron or heavy-bottom skillet until hot. Cook fish 2 minutes on each side or until opaque. Serve with mango salsa.
Fresh Yellowtail Fillet with Lime and Ginger!
Ingredients
1 1/2 pounds skinless yellowtail fillet, cut in 4 equal pieces
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 tablespoons diced green onions
2 tablespoons diced tomatoes
2 tablespoons blanched julienne cut citrus zests (any combination, lime, lemon, orange, grapefruit and yuzu)
2 tablespoons julienne cut ginger
3 ounces red wine
4 to 6 ounces heavy cream
2 ounces unsalted butter
1 to 2 ounces fresh lime juice
1 tablespoon chopped parsley leaves
Directions: Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Season the yellowtail with salt and pepper, to taste. Preheat a nonstick, ovenproof skillet, coated with the olive oil. Add the yellowtail, flesh side down, and cook until brown, about 2 or 3 minutes. Turn the fish over and put the skillet into the oven for 5 minutes.
Remove the skillet from the oven and transfer the fish to a warm platter. Pour any excess oil from the pan. Add the green onions, tomato, citrus zest and ginger and saute, over low heat, for 1 to 2 minutes. Add the wine and deglaze the skillet. Reduce the liquid by half, and then add the heavy cream. Reduce until lightly thickened. Whisk in the butter, lime juice and parsley. Season, to taste, with salt and pepper. Spoon the sauce over the fish and serve.
Taking Fish Home from Cabo?
I wanted to give the best recommendations for fish processing. We highly urge you to use Griceldas as they pick up your fish at the boat when you return from your charter. Filleting is $1.50lb and Smoking is $5.00lb with the finished product in 1LB packages vacuum sealed. They keep the fish at the Smokehouse until you go home. If you plan on taking your fish home, you can buy a hard plastic ice chest in Caba, but they are very expensive running about $60.00 for a 48 quart ice chest. What we recommend you doing is bringing an ice chest with you and putting some of your baggage in the chest and you might be able to save on extra baggage fees.
BEWARE: Please beware of the guys in the street selling boat charters. If you wait till the day you are fishing and go to the dock where your boat is many times people will mislead you to another boat or dock trying to put you on a boat that was not meant for you. You need to have a person guide you to your boat, who is from a reputable charter company. This way there is no confusion or misleading. Please remember when renting Sport fishing boats in Cabo that you rent your boat from reputable and established business. Walk into a fishing fleet office and ask questions about what you are getting and what are the costs? You don't want to rent boats from vendors in the streets and you do not want to book through shady websites offering you the world. Check through travel forums about reputable fishing fleets to deal with. Look for testimonials about the fleet your booking, your charter with. Ask about what will the boat be supplying? Will it include beverages or lunches? How much does it cost to fillet your catch? Check to see if charter boat is insured? Ask about getting your catch smoked? Check cost of a fishing license. These are just a few things to consider when booking your charter boat. We will be talking more about this in the next weeks fishing report.
