Cabo San Lucas - Saltwater Fishing Report

PISCES WEEKLY FISH REPORT
April 21st to 27th, 2018

Overall catch success rate, all species combined: 93%
Numbers at a glance: Billfish 10%, Tuna 79%, Dorado 36%, other 12%.

Weather in Cabo has improved this week for fishermen, with winds dying down and only a bit of swell appearing just after midweek. And with 39 out of 41 boats catching fish, it's been our most successful week fishing this month. Tuna was undoubtedly the most caught fish this week, with 33 out of those 39 boats catching it. It was nice to see a bit more variety as well, with more Dorado showing up and even wahoo. Smaller game fish were only caught by those who decided to stay close to shore.

First timers in Cabo and first time fishing with Pisces, I actually met anglers David and Marilyn Schiameus and James and Nancy Stewart from Texas on the dock on Thursday morning. The group fished with Captain Julio on the Tracy Ann for two days, and had already had successful day fishing on Tuesday. They were happy to share with me how thrilled they were to have such a great crew that was just as excited as they were about catching fish… and they were excited for good reason. In their two days of fishing they caught 60 yellow fin tuna! (With catch limits respected).
On their first day out the Tracy Ann headed 20 miles south from the Old Lighthouse and managed to land 30 football sized yellow fin tuna. All the fish hit on cedar plug lures. Thursday, in almost identical fashion, they landed another 30 tuna, but this time, some 20 miles out, at the 210 Spot. The tuna were slightly larger this time, weighing up to 10 lbs each.

Pisces 38ft C Rod caught a total of 21, found out at San Jaime Bank, which hit on cedar plugs, feathers and hoochi lures. The yellow fin weighed about 10 Lbs. each and were caught by anglers form South Carolina.
Pisces 32 ft Bill Collector caught almost as many, with 19 yellow fin caught total, also at San Jaime, on cedar plugs and feather lures as well. Tunas here ranged in size over 10 lbs, to about 20 lbs each.

As for dorado catches, Pisces 42ft Hot Rod, landed 8 very nice sized fish beginning the week on Sunday, with fish weighing between 10 and 20 lbs. each. The dorado hit on green lures and mackerel out of San Jaime. They also landed 2 yellow fin of about 10 and 15 lbs. each on cedar plugs.

April 24th, the Meyer family, from Spokane, Washington caught the only wahoo of the week, a very nice specimen of almost 30 lbs. The wahoo hit on a tigrillo lure outside of San Jaime and they also found and landed 9 yellowing and 1 dorado there too. The yellow fin ranged in size from about 5 to 10 lbs each and hit on cedar plug lures, while the dorado hit on mackerel bait and weighed about 12 lbs.

And last, but not least, the 35ft Knot Workin, Captained but Tito Olascoaga and anglers form Waaterford, Wisconsin caught 1 dorado of about 10 lbs. on hoochi
lure out at San Jaime. They also caught 2 very nice yellow fin tuna, including the
largest caught by any boat this week, weighing an approximate 45 lbs. Still, they caught a sierra of about 4 lbs at the Old Lighthouse.

Pisces boats caught 494 fish total this week, with 4 being marlin, 439 being tuna, 24 being dorado and 27 being smaller game fish. All marlin were released, and catch limits well respected.

LOCATION: San Jaime Bank and 10+ miles South of Old Lighthouse.

WEATHER CONDITIONS: Calm seas, with some swell starting midweek. Wind on the Pacific at times.

AVERAGE WATER TEMP: 71 F

BEST LURES: Cedar plugs, mackerel bait.
