Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

Capt. Tracy Ehrenberg
March 27, 2007
Cabo San Lucas - Saltwater Fishing Report

MARCH 17th to 22nd, 2007 BILLFISH: We had some very windy weather this week, in fact towards the end of the week boats heading up past Destiladeres encountered winds to 30 knots. With wind we get choppy seas so quite a few people got sea-sick and asked to turn back. Fishing started out slow at the beginning of the week with boats fishing on the Pacific between Lands End and Golden Gate. We then had a complete about turn with boats heading in the opposite direction up the Sea of Cortez to Destiladeres . “ La Brisa” was the first to find the fish and quickly caught and released four striped marlin for Sandra and Les Spitzack from Walker, Mn, fishing with friends Terry and Lori Daudt from Longville, Mn. All boats that fished Destiladeres this day caught a minimum of two marlin, “Rebecca” had three this day. Other boats fished the 11.50 and Santa Maria and most managed to get a single marlin. Next day, March 21st, “C Rod” released five stripers as well as boating two tunas for John Carey. The 22nd was when we had the roughest weather and boats struggled to catch a marlin apiece for those anglers who did not want to turn back. As we close this report, boats reported catches of two to six marlin each with the majority of catches at Destiladeres but some boats doing equally well at San Jaime on the Pacific. Our overall catch success rate for all species combined was seventy eight percent, with fifty one percent of charters catching marlin. We released a total of 42 striped marlin this week. OTHER SPECIES: Smaller game could not compare to marlin catches, nevertheless eleven percent of boats caught yellowfin tuna. When found boats landed between two and nine fish in the 12 to 25 lb class. “La Brisa” had nine plus two dorado on March 19th at the 95 spot, making her the top tuna boat this week. Just eight percent of boats caught dorado with catches seldom more than a single fish. Once again we had a couple of small mako sharks released. Inshore lots of sierra, some roosters and fair amounts of bonita. LOCATION, Destiladeres, San Jaime, 95 spot WEATHER CONDITIONS: Cooler this week, windy, clear skies, seas choppy most of the week. AVERAGE WATER TEMP: 69 F BEST LURES: Live bait for marlin, cedar plugs for tuna, lures for dorado.
