Cabo San Lucas - Saltwater Fishing Report

PISCES WEEKLY FISH REPORT JUNE 1st to 7th, 2007

BILLFISH: There was a huge improvement on fishing this week, with our overall catch success rate jumping up to eighty eight percent for all species combined. Fishing remained steady and good up until the last day of this period when more than half of the boats got “skunked”. The area from Punta Gorda to Destiladeres was the most productive especially for striped marlin which was the top sportfish in Cabo this week. Our top boat was “Yahoo” with six striped marlin released on June 3rd for a group from Arizona, including Mason Fox, Kyle and Kody Spencer, Page and Christian Anderson – they also boated one dorado. This same boat did well a few days earlier on the first of the month with four marlin released for Richer Homer and Angela Kozak from Brownsville, Texas. “Sundancer” released five fish on the 2nd for anglers from Lousiville, Colorado. To round out the week for those worthy of mention was “Ni Modo”, with four striped marlin released and one wahoo boated for Toby Kendall, Nancy Price and Tim Normand all from Los Angeles. Practically all the marlin were caught on live bait. Pisces anglers caught a total of 117 striped marlin this week, with all but one 145 lb fish released. Seventy five percent of charters were able to catch marlin.

OTHER SPECIES: It was nice to see an improvement on dorado this week, with twenty four percent of boats finding fish in the 15 to 25 lb class. Catches were rarely more than one fish, caught whilst trolling and less commonly two fish. Tuna catches were slow with just ten percent of boats catching football size fish. We did have three wahoo but they were smallish at 30, 40 and 50 lbs respectively. Plenty of jack crevalle were caught not just by pangas, but boats fishing closer to shore on the way out or back to Destiladeres. One of the pangas we sent out caught five tasty yellowtail on the Pacific side. There were a few mako sharks to 50 lbs released. Some skipjacks, red snapper and amberjack were also caught.

WEATHER CONDITIONS: Cortez side was warm and calm, Pacific cold and windy. Clear skies.

LOCATION: Punta Gorda, Destiladeres.

AVERAGE WATER TEMP: 70 F

BEST LURES: Live bait.
