Bay St. Louis - Saltwater Fishing Report
Friday thru Tuesday was a piece of fishing heaven! The number of fish that have been hitting the decks of the Shore Thing boats has been amazing! We are all putting together great boxes of fish and in short order. Here is a report from my last two days...
Monday I had John Clemons. John has been on four of my worst ten trips. After the last one in early April, I told him to give me another shot. John has always seemed to show up at the wrong time. The first was a week after the oil spill and the others it just seemed to be blowing 25mph. I had never been able to put together a good trip in those elements for this crew, until now. John and I set out on a picture perfect morning with all the tools and conditions for a great day. We got to the first spot and and with in minutes we were slinging fish over the side, not all were the targeted speckled trout, but the action was hot. By 9 o'clock all we had were six speckled trout and a couple of sheepshead to show for it, and things were looking grim once again. I repositioned the boat to allow our baits drift more natural with the tide, and that's all it took. John likes to talk, drink beer, and relax, but not today. I had him moving at my pace and we had our fish in the box and heading home by 11 o'clock. We ended the day with 50 trout and 10 sheepshead. And he ended the day booking another trip for next week. I hope it is as good as that was.
Yesterday I had loyal friends and clients Chip and Jimmy, and they decided to bring new boy Gordon along. This is a crew it seems I never have had a bad day with and this one was no exception! We hit the spot and within about 30 min we had half our speckled trout limit in the boat. If we had another 30 min we would have been done, but the wind blew us off the spot. We were close to one of my favorite red fish spots, so we had to try it. The new guy Gordon made fools out of Chip and Jimmy. Gordon had five in the boat before the other two even knew what happened. We ended the day on a few flocks of birds to add to an already full box of fish. It may not be this way every time, but we noticed if we made a cast in front of the birds we caught a galftop, right underneath was a speckled trout, and behind them(down wind of birds) was a white trout. We hit six different flocks and it was the same pattern on all six. Has anybody else noticed a pattern like this? I have always caught all those fish under birds, but have never noticed them to be so separated like that before. The boys and I hit the docks with 61 speckled trout, 11 reds, 10 sheepshead, 1 flounder, and a hand full of white trout. Check out the picture!
