Fishing Is Getting Hot

Capt. Matt Tusa

Bay St. Louis - Saltwater Fishing Report

The Shore Thing Captains were busy this past week. All of us fished through the weekend. Some trip good and some exceptional. The bull reds were thick. On one trip my crew caught 15 bulls, with many double ups. The Marsh Works Shrimp pattern was the ticket!

Monday and Tuesday were exceptional. Besides the wind and rough seas the fishing was awesome. I had Don and Roger for some non-stop action. Yesterday we got a few short of our limit in trout, a few nice spanish, and a couple of reds. There were more schools of bait than I have seen all season thus far. Today we decided to go straight back and press our luck. Lets just say we had our trout limit by 9:30. We capped the day off with a few nice reds and a flounder. We could have shot a Parker Boat ad with the seas we came back in. We made it home safe but a little wet. All fish were caught on Marsh Works under a cork and a few on top water. We ended the two days with 92 speckled Trout, 5 redfish, 6 southern kingfish, 2 white trout, 3 spanish mackerel, and 1 flounder. This is the second time I have taken Don, and he is all ready planning a summer trip and a fall trip.

I was able to make it out today, Wednesday. We were unable to make it to the Biloxi Marsh due to the 25 knots of wind. We made the stop at LaFrance's to float the boat and was pleased to find some really nice live shrimp. Mitch and I made it out to the first spot to find some quality trout. All trout were caught on live shrimp under the cork and all were in 16-18 in. range. We fished a few spots around the Pearl River and Little Lake and made a nice box of fish. We ended the day with 14 speckled trout, 7 reds, 4 flounder, 1 black drum, and 1 lucky gar. Not bad for a bad weather day!
