Bay St. Louis - Saltwater Fishing Report

Well I am home for the second day this week because of weather. I did make it out Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Each day different results, but all great! When weather starts playing a factor we just have to change the game plan, the tactics, and fish the conditions we are given.

Monday I had Charlie and John. The conditions were perfect other then the lack of tide. The tide was slow rolling and finding a consistent bite was tough on our end. We did manage to put together a box of some beautiful speckled trout. Most of the trout were caught thanks to Roscoe's croakers and Bourdages live shrimp. Our biggest trout of the day was caught on the live shrimp. We ended the day with 25 trout and 2 reds. No limits but a great box of fish!

Tuesday we had the Brent crew of 8. Capt. Kyle and Kenny were in on this trip. We woke up to 20mph winds out of the NW, so going to the marsh was out of the question. We hit the reef, all three captains fighting for position, I think Capt. Kyle even cut me off and did a 360 right in the middle of my fishing hole. After all of the shenanigans everyone was set and whacking some fish. The Shore Thing boys have a secret to fishing these reefs that may go down with the ships. We all worked together and executed it with perfection. Our crews didn't put their rods down until the last shrimp was used. We boated 98 white trout, 59 black drum, 6 speckled trout, 3 sheepshead, 2 flounder, 2 red fish(released a few more), and we even had a few juvenile mangrove snapper come to the party. We could not have done better on a good day of fishing, so we were pleased considering the 20-25mph NW we were fishing.

Yesterday I had Blaise, Guy, and Mr. Boudreaux's Butt Paste himself on my boat. My butt and I felt in good hands, knowing relief was not far away. I think I remember Capt. Sonny and his butt sending a thank you through the VHF. The fishing turn out great, or as best we could do while dodging thunderstorms. But I broke one of my cardinal rules, I think it cost us valuable time and the rest of our limit. I had one spot on my mind, but decided to take a detour and check another before I got there. Well the water was dirty, no bait, nothing but galftops, and all the tangles I could handle. I think I had to cut about $45 in power pro. During all that time Capt. Sonny was telling us to get to his spot Now! Here is where I broke my rule, I went! Instead of going with my gut we went and by time we got there the bite was over. Turned out to be about 20 miles and a hour and a half of fishing time I wasted on four fish. I finally went with my gut and had about 30-45 min. on the bite and put 41 speckled trout in the boat before getting blown off by a storm. Another 30 min. and we would have had our limit. We had to run so far and around the rain and lightening there was no going back, so we called it a day, after giving the radar a look. Ended the day with 41 speckled trout and 2 reds, and no irritated butts.

Give us a call I think we still have one maybe two spots open for June. Off hand the 18th and 25th, both are Mondays. Still call as we may get some cancellations. Call me 228-493-9743
