Gulfport - Saltwater Fishing Report

The man made reefs as well as the wrecks are producing some nice trout in the early AM, out at the islands. But making the "One" primary decision is the toughest of all!
First you have to decide top water or the live bait bite. For most it is an easy decision. There is nothing like watching a Speckle Trout or Red Fish explode on a top water lure. Most of those fish are nice quality fish, and the early AM is the time for top water.
On the other hand, there have been some pigs pulled off of the reefs in the early AM on live croaker or bull minnows. Either free lined or fished under a cork. Not as visual of a fishing method, but the results can really put a wall hanger in the boat. Not to mention limiting out on some quality fish in little to no time on those prime mornings.

The birds have been as active as ever, but the results are many schoolies most making the size cut, but not all qualify for the "ice chest hotel". One interesting opportunity is to break out the fly rod and get hooked up on the fly! If you have never experienced this challenging method of fishing you are missing out on an opportunity of a life time.
A few Reds have been spotted cruising the grass beds but they have been few and far between. Most of the Reds have been on the points and cuts of those beds.

With the 4th of July upon us it is going to get a little crazy out there on the water. The Mississippi Fishing Rodeo is full force and everyone is out there trying to "Win"! Be careful out there and courteous to other boaters as well as respecting the wade fishers.
With the full moon of July being on the 18th , the 16th through the 22nd will be an excellent time to target some Gator Trout! Give us a call to book a trip.
