Gulfport - Saltwater Fishing Report

March continues to be great. This can be a very unpredictable time of year, and targeting specific species can be less than productive. But if you fish the day as it presents itself, and seek out the quarry that the weather patterns dictate, you can be in for some fantastic fishing.
On the outside the reefs are on fire. Speckle Trout, White Trout, Ground Mullet, and the occasional bonus Red and Flounder. Both the Katrina Reef and the Keesler Reef are the destination to be, but be very aware of the weather. On days like yesterday, light breezes can turn into 20-30 mile per hour gusts in a matter of minutes. Such is the norm for March. If you can't navigate in 2-4 foot chops stay on the inside.
The inside reefs are as predictable as ever. If you are targeting Specks exclusively try hopping back and forth from the many man made reefs inside Back Bay Biloxi. Live bait is great for a great fishing experience and too numerous to count hook ups, but you will have a large amount of throw back Trout for your efforts. I have found that, on the inside, artificials are producing the consistent bite of legal Specks, enough for most people to limit out. Don't get me wrong if you are not into running and gunning you are going to be there for a while too seek you limit. The best strategy is to "Go Long" from your launch ramp and fish each reef thoroughly back to the ramp. The Black Drum and Sheepshead are as thick as ever on the Bridges, with a few Ground Mullet, and White Trout moving onto the reefs around the 110 Bridge.
Good Luck out there. Go wet some lines, and give me a call if you want too book a trip!
