Gulfport - Saltwater Fishing Report

This is the time of year that reminds me of the verses of Jimmy Buffet's ballad, "The weather is here wish you were beautiful". Because the weather is truly beautiful and if you could see it you really would wish you were here. With lows in the 50's and highs in the 70's now is the time of year to be on the water.
The reds are on the move way up in the shallow marshes, bayous, and feeder creaks feeding on the new crab offspring that are in the 1-2 inch range. When the tide changes the reds are stacked up in the mouths of these drains waiting in ambush to finish off each crustation exiting the waterway. Jig head with plastic, Chatter bait, Spinner, Top water, and live bait it does not matter. They are on the feed now and waiting for you to come and get them while they fatten up for winter. The larger boys and girls are staged up on the down current side of the few inshore oyster laden islands in the area. This is a perfect live bait location as well as artificial.
The trout are scattered all over the bays. Looking for birds is very effective, but top water in the early AM as well as popping corks over the many man made reefs has been productive. Those same mouths of major bayous will also produce the trout bite as well as an incidental door mat flounder.
Don't miss out on the time of year. Give us a call and we will set up your next fishing adventure!
