Gulfport - Saltwater Fishing Report

Late report from Wednesday! I had the pleasure of chartering a great group from Boise, Idaho. We all met at the Kramer's launch off of Loraine road and set up a game plan for the day that included fishing for the guys and a late lunch cruise for the gals. Dan and John would be doing the fishing, and Barbara and Carol the shopping.
We launched quickly, and after some minor overlooked details (you can't start a motor without the kill switch in place) we were off and on our way. We focused on the main small drains, bayous, bays, and sloughs in the area and were soon Hooked Up. Dan was on at one of my primary bayous that has been 100% productive this month. After a brief fight a nice 22 inch Red was in the boat.
A few 100 feet later John was hooked up and had another nice Red at the surface but the sly devil threw the hook 15 feet from the boat. What a rush and John was grinning ear to ear. Just past the power lines it was Dan's turn to hook-up yet again, but he met the same fate as John with the fish giving up the bait feet from the boat.

Very little bait was moving as the cool front was moving in. What bait that could be seen, was being chased by a few fish and they were easy to target. Today the weatherman got it right and around 8 AM it started to blow, causing the tide to fall at a brisk rate.
We relocated to the train bridge in back bay looking for Sheepshead, but only managed flounder. A troll around the windward side of big island showed signs of trapped bait and a very few Reds working the nerves bait. Dan managed to pull a nice 18 incher out of a small bayou on the island, and we quickly released him back to his home waters.
I 110 wasn't quite on today, not even the catfish were playing. Dan managed to hook into one of the monster Black Drum that inhabit the bridge, but the large fish created more stress than the 15 lb test line could take resulting in a disheartening break off.

The time was at hand and we were off to meet the ladies for a late lunch cruise. We met again at Kramer's launch and were quickly loaded and heading to the Industrial Canal on our way to "The Dock". Lunch was great as always and the company was even better. After Lunch we headed up Bernard Bayou for a slow cruise and some sight seeing of the nice homes on that waterway concluding their day back at the launch.
This is a great time of the year and a wonderful time to go fishing. The weather is pleasant and the fishing on the verge of beginning the "Fall" peak period. Give us a call and we will set up your next fishing adventure!
