Gulfport - Saltwater Fishing Report

The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly
Well you have to post the good and the bad days, and today really falls in the category of bad. Without any good sense, myself and two friends decide “Let’s Go Fishing”. OK! I instigated it but we knew we would have a good time on the water.
Tropical Storm Erin was working its way into Texas and we were getting a little residual wind from the storm. Due south at 15-20 miles per hour. Funny how predictions go. The weather underground predicted 1-7 miles per hour out of the southeast and the weather channel 5-10 out of the southeast. Oh well what can we say about the weather it changes in a minute and anyone whose predictions are 50% accurate is an excellent forecaster.
Unloaded at Gulfport harbor at 5:15 AM with a blow. My friend Bo said “well what do you think”. I stated “we should go to Back Bay Biloxi and stay in protected water”. Fahron just smiled and said “I am just along for the ride”. Well that didn’t provoke the response I was looking for so they were still set on our destination, Cat Island..
After navigating to the main channel we were in 1-2’s in the harbor. It’s funny how you think things are going to get better, or are at their worst right now. After passing south of Whale Point we were in constant 3 footers with the occasional 4 and 5. We weren’t taking a pounding we were just cutting through the waves. With the occasional breaking wave blasting over the bow and drenching all occupants.
I never notice Fahron had somehow managed to get behind my chair and avoided the unscheduled bath Bo and I were getting. All of a sudden that was it. Bo had had enough why don’t we just fish around the Banana Boat Docks and Whale Point. He didn’t need to say anymore I started a slow turn to the north to get ready for our morning of fishing and Fahron and I gave Bo the ribbing he knew he was going to get. Of course we knew he saw right through our farce because each of us were waiting to see who would be the first to admit Cat Island wasn’t happening today.
Well back to the report. There really isn’t much to report. We were able to drown about 4 dozen shrimp and have a blast in the process. We caught a plethora of croakers on shrimp and cut bait. One white trout, one Black Drum and a Lady Fish that proved to be the best entertainment of the day.
The weather did settle down around 10:30 and Cat Island was calling and tempting me on the horizon. But by then Bo needed to get home so he could prepare to take his grandson to his Tee Ball Game. We called it a day, loaded up the boat and pulled off in route to the house.
Bo has it right though. There is nothing more important than the Kids in your life. Put them as priority number one and the rest will fall in place.
