Gulfport - Saltwater Fishing Report

Bays and Marshes ramping up!
Today I had the pleasure of fishing with Hal Ray and his son Brad. This trip has been in the works for some time but with various schedule conflicts, it had been delayed and rescheduled and today was the day!
Both anglers arrived early at my Home Port for the ride to our final destination. Reds were the targeted species and pitching the banks with artificials was the preferred method of choice by both anglers. That left but one choice for the destination this time of year, the Pascagoula River Marsh.
To make things interesting the two anglers had a family wager for the largest fish and asked me if I wanted in. I decided to sit back, control the wireless trolling motor from the helm seat and watch the battle unfold.
Hal drew first blood in Crooked Bayou with a nice 22 inch Redfish and Brad was never able to recover. Reds and their visible V wake were everywhere, and the Trout were feeding on small bait fish and difficult to keep off the hook. Most of the Trout were in the 13 ¾ range and were not able to check in to the Ice Chest Hotel, so they were thrown back. Brad came out on top as the Flounder King for the day. But Hal accomplished the Gulf Coast Grand Slam, boating a Redfish, Speckle Trout, and a Flounder. All in all it was a beautiful very windy day with 2 Reds, 6 Flounders, and 12 Trout.
There is nothing better than having the opportunity to watch a father and son having some fun in a family fishing wager.
