Gulfport - Saltwater Fishing Report

Explore your waters on the bad days to become more productive on the Great Days!
I did a little exploring today trying to become more familiar with the intricate details of my home waters. I took along a friend Eddie and we decided to explore some of the skinner waters of Back Bay Biloxi.
This is a task all anglers should pursue if they fish tidal waters. Things change over the years. What was shallow may be deep and what may have been deep can leave you with a flat. (Aground). Since Katrina I have not fully explored every nook and cranny of Back Bay so this was the day.
A super low tide was created by the cold front and the north winds. The wind was very variable and frequently gusting up into the 20’s. And it was cold for here, anyway in November 42 is a cold morning on the water especially with the wind.
I like to explore the shallows on days like these since the water volume is as bad as it can get, I know what I can run with various tides without having any navigation difficulties such as being left high and dry on an outgoing tide.
I revisited some large shallow bays that usually hold Reds and Speckle Trout but all I could find all day were some very nice Flounder. We did find a few trout but with the cold front they were holding to the deeper holes harboring warmer, saltier water.
The Flounder have definitely moved in and are on most all of the flats and bayou mouth’s. The Reds and Speckle Trout are moving back in as salinities are rising from our little flooding episode from two weeks past, and the Black Drum and Sheepshead are in their usual haunts. White trout and Ground Mullet are plentiful on the Keesler Reef and are hit and miss at the Inshore Reefs.
All in all we did pretty good putting a nice dinner on our families table. And just think we were exploring water not focusing on a quarry. Let’s go fishing!
