Gulfport - Saltwater Fishing Report

Week In Review!
The Pascagoula River is active with Reds, Flounder, and Speckle Trout. The Trout are a little further up river than normal due to the lack of rain, but Crooked Bayou is full of them, in its northern reaches. Reds are in the river system and mouths of most bayous. And the Flounder are in all of the bays.
The Back Bay Biloxi is loaded with Black Drum. You can fill a cooler in little to no time. Most concentrations are in the usual places, like the train bridge and the old highway bridge near I 110. Where deeper channels are adjacent to reefs is where the greatest concentrations hang out. Just like the Pascagoula, the Flounder are in all of the bays and flats. School trout can be found east of I 110, but the quality Specks are to the west and further up the Biloxi River, Tchoutacabouffa River and Kramer’s. Big lake and Grass Hopper Island are also productive right now in the 5-8 feet of water range. And the Reds are scattered in the marsh area where the two rivers meet.
This is a great time for fishing. Just play the cold fronts and fish two to three days after or the day before their arrival and the pickings can be easy. Live bait is great but not necessary. A plastic cocahoe minnow in any color pattern works well on the bottom or under a cork. And if you are not comfortable with artificial. Just tip the hook with a piece of market (dead) shrimp and you are in business.
