Gulfport - Saltwater Fishing Report

Unseasonable weather patterns persist!
The weather has been unseasonable of late. This has resulted in conditions of a transition fishing pattern. It hasn’t been cold enough to drive the fish deep for days on end, as would be the typical pattern this time of year.
Bait fish have been scarce. And the diving birds, with their tell tail antics saying “The Bait and Fish are over here”, have been few and far between. But a lead head with a cocahoe minnow has been the most effective lure. Color isn’t that important once you locate the fish.
Locations on Back Bay Biloxi are scattered, with the below average rain fall, the trout have continued to remain further up river than normal, for this time of year. Flats adjacent to deep water are remaining productive for Speckle Trout. The Reds are scattered in the marshes further up river. Flounder are still lingering in the flats closer to the I 110 bridge, and the Black Drum, as well as Sheepshead are still in their usual predictable haunts. But the weather has been a joy to fish in. Light jackets in the AM, and shirt sleeves after noon. A lot of prospecting is required to find your quarry, but the reward is worth the effort!
