Gulfport - Saltwater Fishing Report

The past few days have been jam packed with activities preparing for my parents 50th Anniversary. The event was a success and we were able to pull off a great surprise!
My Uncle Bill and Aunt Paula were in from Colorado for the occasion and I had already blocked time for them to take them on a "Boating Trip". So I finally got the chance to take the new boat out for a long run today. Well as anyone down here knows, no boating trip can be worth its while without some fishing. So we made a day of it.
We put over at the 110 launch in D'Iberville and the official break in period began. Making our way out to the Keesler and Katrina Reef, all the time varying Speed/RPM's can tax the patience of anyone. But not when you have family on board to just plain and simply have a blast.
We had a little luck at the Katrina reef with some Croaker and Ground Mullet. Then as if on schedule you pull anchor to begin a boat ride, and bam. A nice 17 inch Speckle Trout on Bill's line. There is just something magical about someone saying "one more cast" and then instantly catching a nice fish.
Over the course of the day we made the 50 mile "break in" run from D'Iberville, around Cat Island, back to D'Iberville, through the Industrial Canal, on to Gulfport Lake, and back to D'Iberville. With stops for more fishing this can make for a long day, but when you are on the water with family time flies. Especially when you can pull up dockside to the "Blow Fly Inn" and have Lunch to break up the day!
The new boat is great! Let's go fishing!
