Transition Continues.

Gulfport - Saltwater Fishing Report

Warm, rain, wind, then cold again. Transition times between seasons is tough. Nothing is in any one "usual" location, so you must fish for both winter and spring patterns. This can result in covering a lot of water and still striking out on your target species. Especially if that species is Speckle Trout.

Specks are on the verge of their primary spawn but the weather patterns are inconsistent to accommodate them, as well as a little premature. Throw in a lot of rain to decrease salinities and things get tough! But, they are there and starting to show up at their usual haunts. Timing is everything and on those ideal days it's fish on.

The Ground Mullet and White Trout are starting to show up on the outer reefs. Schools of Reds are here and there mostly on the outside. But the old faithful Black Drum and Sheepshead are as thick as ever and can make a bad day a great fishing experience.

Be safe out there!
