Winter Pattern In Place!

Capt. Charles Damiens
December 9, 2008
Gulfport - Saltwater Fishing Report

We have a consistent winter fishing pattern in place as of now. Early morning trout are deep in the holes and pockets adjacent to the flats, as well as in the deeper bayous and canal systems. Trolling these canals and bayous is very productive right now. And slow jigging the isolated deeper pockets can put some fairly large trout in the boat.

The reds can be patterned as well. While fishing deeper pockets near the mouths of drains and bayous, try jigging from the bank out into the depths. This is the best early morning tactic for the reds and you may find a trout or two with your efforts.

As the day warms the trout are moving just onto the edges of the flats, and an occasional flounder will be found. The reds have been working the edges of the banks during the midday as well as the the shallow ponds that start filling with warmer water.

This is a great time of the year and a wonderful time to go fishing. Give us a call and we will set up your next fishing adventure!
