Biloxi Bay Delivers Redfish, Black Drum, Sheepshead, Flounders

Mississippi Sound - Saltwater Fishing Report

On a day of poor tidal conditions, and extremely rough seas, a fine mixed bag of flounders, redfish, sheepshead, and black drum delivered some enjoyable light tackle fun.

On this outing my clients were Bryan Thornton, Jay Mayfield, and Doug Ayers, and they fished hard to catch a nice box of fish. Our fishing was carried out in the Back Bay of Biloxi, and most fish were caught around bottom structure.

Our bait was fresh dead shrimp fished on simple bottom rigs made up of 1-ounce bank sinkers, 25-pound-test Seaguar Fluorocarbon leader material, and 1/0 Gamakatsu Octopus Hooks.

My initial intentions were to hammer the white trout and ground mullet on the oyster and rubble reefs in the Mississippi Sound, but 5-foot plus seas put a stop to that idea.

But none the less, patience paid off, and a wonderful variety of fish were landed under poor fishing conditions. Hey, as long as you have a line in the water you have a chance, other wise sitting at home puts you out of the game.

Looks like Sunday will be an excellent day to fish with a prediction of 5 mph winds out of the north. It doesn't get any better than that!

What are you waiting for let's fish!

By the way, I am fully licensed to fish in both Louisiana and Mississippi waters, and the Cajun waters are heating up with some great speck and redfish angling. Have the new 2170 Blazer Bay to carry out those adventures!

And for great nearshore light tackle angling, especially for family groups, take a shot at fishing oyster and rubble reefs for white trout and ground mullet. Great non stop fish catching fun!

Regards,
Capt. Robert L. Brodie of TEAM BRODIE CHARTERS

Mississippi Sound Fishing Forecast:

This month the Louisiana marsh will be loaded with speckled trout, as well as big redfish. The oyster and rubble reefs in the Mississippi Sound will continue to deliver great catches of sand sea trout a.k.a. "white trout" and southern kingfish a.k.a. "ground mullet". Tripletail will be working their way into the Mississippi Sound also, and they make for great sight fishing while "running and gunning" the crap trap corks.

Target Species:

redfish, speckled trout, tripletail, white trout, ground mullet
