Biloxi Mississippi Bay Fishing - Big Sheepshead Cometh!

Capt. Robert L. Brodie
November 3, 2009
Mississippi Sound - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fished yesterday with a great couple from Texas, James Gathright and his wife Pamela, and man did they catch the black drum and big sheepshead.

Started out on the shallow oyster reefs in Biloxi Bay for white trout, and those reefs that were easily producing 100 plus fish were dead zones.

We caught it at dead low tide, no current movement, on a full moon, and with winds on the increase. It was quite chilly too.

Well, it was time to run back into the Back Bay of Biloxi and find them a hot bite, and the black drum and big sheepshead were eager to engulf their offerings of live shrimp.

Using simple two way rigs made up of 25-pound-test Seaguar fluorocarbon leader material, a 1-ounce weight, and a 1/0 Gamakatsu circle hook was the ticket to success.

Once the morning was over the husband and wife duo had boxed 30 black drum, 8 big sheepshead, and 6 pretty white trout. Took these fish home and cleaned them up with the electric knife, the only way to go on sheepshead and drum.

Black drum and sheepshead are two very underrated fish for both eating, and tremendous light tackle battles.

Now is an excellent time to book a bay fishing trip aboard TEAM BRODIE CHARTERS, plenty of fish to catch, and nice cool weather. Hey, it doesn't get any better than that!

Regards and many thanks to all,

Capt. Robert L. Brodie of TEAM BRODIE CHARTERS

Mississippi Sound Fishing Forecast:

Black drum and sheepshead are thick in the bays!

White trout thick on fish-havens in the Mississippi Sound, but need a calm day to load up on the big "yellow-mouth" trout.

Speckled trout are moving up the bays slowly, and will increase as the weather gets colder.

Been catching a few quality specks on top-water baits too, fish running 3.5 to 4.5-pounds. It takes patiences to catch them, weather needs to be calm, and I like 1 to 2 anglers for such outings.

Target Species:

Sheepshead, black drum, white trout, specks
