Mississippi Sound - Saltwater Fishing Report

Last Saturday was a cold and windy morning on the Back Bay of Biloxi. However, my clients bundled up, and boarded for a day on the bay. The morning bite around the old Ocean Springs fishing bridge was extremely slow, and the few big fish they hooked cut off the lines on underwater structure.

However, during the afternoon we moved up the bay, and there a good bite turned on. During the afternoon bite, 6 really big sheepsheads, 2 black drum, and a flounder saved the day. Water condition were poor at best, muddy and cold, in the lower 50's.
It took some time and patience, but the guys fished hard and eeked out a mess of fish. It seems that most of my trips have been saved with a good afternoon bite. Our bait for the day was fresh dead shrimp fished on three-way or Carolina-rigs.
Cold fronts and plenty of fresh water dumping into our bays and rivers are making it a challenge to find fish, but if you fish long and hard enough fish can be caught. Have a trip Wednesday, and hope to make it out to the oyster reefs in the Mississippi Sound for some tasty ground mullet a.k.a. southern kingfish.
