Biloxi, MS - Coastal Bays Deliver Non Stop Fish Catching Fun!

Capt. Robert L. Brodie
March 17, 2009
Mississippi Sound - Saltwater Fishing Report

Hello all, it's been three days of non stop fish catching fun here in Biloxi, MS, and I must admit I need a day or two of rest and tackle care. We've both been through hell!

The weather for Saturday, Sunday, and Monday for the most part had been windy and rainy, but despite those less than favorable conditions, well, TEAM BRODIE CHARTERS loaded the boat on all three trips.

Generally the bite was best in the morning, and timing was essential to be in the right spot when the tide flow was at its best.

For us, well, timing was right on the money, and the last three days included a wonderful mixed bag of redfish (most in the 20-inch class, the good eating size), plenty of big sow sheepshead a.k.a. "bay snapper", flounders, speckled trout, black drum, white trout, and ground mullet.

To say the bite was hot would be an understatement, and my clients got a good work out putting the light tackle through some the rigors of catching multitudes of hard fighting fish.

Much of our fishing was done in the rain and wind, but hey, when the bite is on, well, it's easy to forget about the nasty conditions.

To fish these conditions would require some hard-core clients, and once again I was blessed with some very good anglers that were determined to catch fish, and have a plenty of laughs during the entire process. Bottom line, WE HAD FUN!

On Saturday my clients were Casey and Amanda Wood from Texas, as well as their young son Ethan, a fishing finatic! These were more comeback clients, and this day Ethan would experience another banner morning of fishing aboard TEAM BRODIE CHARTERS.

When the rod bending action was over, and they had gone through $30 worth of live bait, well, we were all worn out.

Their take home catch included: 5 beautiful redfish, 3 black drum, 13 sheepshead, 2 flounders, 3 speckled trout, and 2 ground mullet.

A really nice south Mississippi mixed bag, and great light tackle fun for this delightful family from the Lone Star State.

Did they have fun, you bet, and they are already making plans to come back in June, as well as sending friends down to fish aboard TEAM BRODIE CHARTERS.

On Sunday, my clients were Nick Ward, Justin Desorcy, Anna Hitchcock, and Mark Kenner. More nasty rainy conditions, but once again this was a great crew of hard-core anglers.

At first the bite was slow, but once the tide got right it was game on, and once again those 7-foot St. Croix rods were taking a beating.

When these guys finished up their fishing, well, they too had a fine box full of inshore gamesters.

Their take home catch included: 2 fine redfish, 6 flounders, 50 or more white trout and ground mullet, 6 fine speckled trout, a couple of black drum, as well as a mess of sheepshead.

More great light tackle action, and Nick is already planning another trip soon. Nick came back to the house with me and we proceeded to clean all of their catch, and by the wasy Nick, you forgot your Frog Toggs on the boat.

On Monday it was more nasty weather, but aboard TEAM BRODIE CHARTERS, well, you better be ready to catch fish no matter the conditions...barring any lighting of course.

This group consisted of Buddy Brannon and his 17-year-old daughter Caroline.

More less than favorable weather, but "if it isn't broke don't try and fix it", and so we kept up the same formula of fish catching fun as Saturday and Sunday.

At first the bite was extremely slow, but once the tide started churning in, well, it was rod bending excitement once again.

When the fish catching flurry ended, and the $30 worth of live shrimp had been offered to the fish below, well, another box full of fish graced TEAM BRODIE CHARTERS.

Buddy followed me back to the house where I cleaned the fish, and Caroline could change into some clean dry clothes, much welcomed after a wet morning on the water.

Take home catch for this father and daughter duo included: 6 beautiful redfish, 15 or so sheepshead, 1 15-pound black drum, as well as a flounder.

Now is that inshore fish catching at its best...you darn right it is.

Heck, Buddy now has to bring back his 13-year-old daughter that missed out on the action, but fish catching is what we do so gather up the family, friends, and children and treat them to a day of light tackle fish catching fun aboard TEAM BRODIE CHARTERS.

Again, I would like to thank all of my clients for fishing hard in those miserable conditions, and eventually knocking out fine catches of fish. It was a pleasure, and hope to see all of you before the end of the summer.

Remember...life is short...let's fish!
