Biloxi MS Fishing Hot

Capt. Robert L. Brodie
April 1, 2010
Mississippi Sound - Saltwater Fishing Report

Been real busy so I'll make this short and to the point. The white trout and ground mullet have moved in and are there for the taking on both near shore and offshore reefs.

Fished one man a day ago, Bill Storey from Texas, and he boxed 70 plus on artificial jigs as fast as he could drop down the bait. Heck, the jig couldn't even get to the bottom before it had a fish on. Really fun fishing! A fish on ever cast...now that's great light tackle action!

He tried his fly rod on redfish, but a bit windy and fish were running fast on that day. However, he did manage to land and release a 40-pound class drum and a smaller one on a jig.

On the flats this way was massive schools of big sheepshead, thousands of them, and a free lined live shrimp was the ticket to excellent fishing excitement. Bill even landed a big sheepshead on his fly rod, and he really enjoyed the pull hefty fish provided.

You see, these fish were in a foot or two of crystal clear water on a pure sand bottom, and made for spectacular sight fishing. Bill wore his arm out catching and releasing all he could reel in, but that wasn't the highlight of the day.

The really big catch was a big 20-inch Florida pompano, the first of the season, and we witnessed the fish chase the live shrimp to the surface before he ran down the fleeing bait. Talk about a beautiful sight!

This is just a sign of things to come, and it's only going to get better and better.

Saw the first shark and jack crevalle of the season too, and the barrier island's flats are starting to see more giant stingrays and cow nose rays in the shallows, all beautiful sights that add to fishing the gin clear waters of the barrier islands.

Oh yeah, fished the day before in terrible fishing conditions staying close to the launch with Josh and Bambi Guilbeau from Louisiana, but the young couple still managed to land a big speckled trout, a fine refish, and a number of big sheepshead. They had a blast!

Hey the bite is on and it's getting better each and every day. So book your trip now while there are openings.

Regards and many thanks to all,
