Biloxi MS Fishing Is Hot! - Catching A Mixed Bag

Capt. Robert L. Brodie
April 23, 2010
Mississippi Sound - Saltwater Fishing Report

Finished up 6 out of the last 7 days on the water, and I admit I need a few days off. With a bit of stormy weather coming in I rescheduled Friday and Saturday for next month, and that was a blessing. These old bones need a rest!

However the light tackle fishing aboard TEAM BRODIE CHARTERS has been excellent, and we've caught all sorts of fish in the last couple of days.

You name it, redfish, flounders, Spanish mackerel, sheepshead, black drum, sand sea trout aka "white trout", southern kingfish aka "ground mullet", gulf kingfish aka "whiting", and flounders have been introduced to the ice chest throughout the week.

Some of the fishing has been in the Back Bay of Biloxi, Mississippi Sound, as well as out at the gorgeous barrier islands including Ship Island and Horn Island.

Most have been come back clients, as well as a few new recruits to TEAM BRODIE CHARTERS.

A smaller run of the big sheepshead at the islands is still going on, and casting to those hefty sheeps in 1 to 2-feet of crystal clear water is really amazing.

The small black drum are showing back up in the bay too, as well as some nice redfish. Flounders are beginning to stack up in certain holes and flats, and the big fun was getting in on the first run of big Spanish mackerel of the season.

The big Macks were trailing behing the boat on the gin-clear flats, and watching them rush at and slash the fake baits was a sight for sore eyes. A few reds are still prowling about the isles too.

And yes, the white trout and ground mullet are stacking up on the inshore reef, and big numbers of these tasty fish are there for the taking. Caught a couple of bull reds at the isle on this run of trips, and also caught and released a 50-pound black drum at the Katrina Reef.

Bottom line, fishing has been quite fun and consistent here in south Mississippi aboard TEAM BRODIE CHARTERS, and believe it or not it's only going to get better.

Still waiting on the big run of tripletail aka "blackfish" as well as Florida pompano, and that's always worth waiting for.

Hey, fishing is good, life is good, so let's fish!

Regards and many thanks to all,
