Mississippi Sound - Saltwater Fishing Report

Today I hade the pleasure to once again fish with a fine group of men from the Farm Bureau. With southerly winds 10 to 12-knots, and 2-foot seas we made the 14-mile run to the Bellefontaine Reef in the open waters of the Mississippi Sound.

There, the men proceeded to enjoy a steady catch of really nice sand sea trout a.k.a. "white trout" and southern kingfish a.k.a. "ground mullet". A fine speckled trout fell for a live shrimp, and before we left the reef 90 of those fine eating fish were boxed.

On the way in these gentlemen were lucky enough to see, as well as boat a nice tripletail a.k.a. "blackfish". This was TEAM BRODIE CHARTERS second of the season, and these odd looking and delicious fish always makes a wonderful bonus catch.
Before the summer is over we'll catch more of these strange looking fish, and sight fishing them under crab trap corks is a great way to spend a day. (Special trips can be set up for hunting these fish too) Fishing for tripletail isn't a numbers game, but it's quite a challenge to boat a few lurking under surface structure or debris.
Back in the Back Bay of Biloxi one of the men hooked into another one of those huge drum we've been catching, but this monster could not be controlled on 10-pound-test line, and eventually ran back into the pilings slicing the light line. But for about 10-minutes we chased the fish down with the boat, and had some great excitement on the boat until the breakoff.
Final tally 90 white trout and ground mullet, a nice 2-pound speck, and a beautiful tripletail to end the day of fishing. Looking forward to fishing with these gentlemen next year (Steve Brison, Rick Clemson, Brian Cooper, and Robert Gibson), and enjoying another day of paradise in our back yard...South Mississippi.
Regards,
Capt. Robert L. Brodie of TEAM BRODIE CHARTERS
