Mississippi Sound - Saltwater Fishing Report

FIRST TRIP-Monday-July 21, 2008
Ran a trip Monday with comeback client Ed Perry of Texas, his daughter Veronica, and her boy friend Cody. Got on the water early, and before we even got the boat on a plane out of the no wake zone we came upon birds working large shrimp jumping for their lives.

There, they proceeded to toss soft-plastics under popping corks and catch white trout, small speckled trout, bluefish, and a nice Spanish mackerel. Within a short time 35 or more keepers we stashed in the live well, and we decideded to move on.

Now that's how to start out a trip, five minutes out of the Biloxi Small Craft Harbor, a live well full of delicious fish, and great light tackle fun.

Moved on to the outside of Deer Island, and more of the same...birds working fish everywhere. Pods of dolphin feeding throughout the area too, they were dining on the abundance of fish also.
Eventually anchored up on the west end of the Katrina Reef where the family group proceeded to land another Spanish mackerel, and plenty of big white trout and ground mullet on bottom rigs baited up with fresh dead squid and shrimp. More non stop action!
By 10 o'clock the guys had boated over 100 white trout and ground mullet, 2 nice Spanish mackerel, a few specks, and probably released that many fish to boot. Perfect morning! Ed hopes to make it back this winter for a guided duck hunting trip too, another offering of TEAM BRODIE CHARTERS.
SECOND TRIP-Tuesday-July 22, 2008
The following day a last minute trip came up, and my clients Gleb Drona of Russia, and his 10-year-old son Danila wanted a short trip to try their hand at saltwater fishing.

Well it was evident Danila had the hot hand, and proceeded to land the majority of their 20 plus keepers...white trout and ground mullet. Danila even caught a small shark, croakers, and a big spadefish that nearly pulled him out of his seat. For their first trip they has a great time...especially Danila.

Hey, the fish are out there so don't hesitate to gather up the kids and book a fishing trip. By the way folks these sand sea trout a.k.a. "white trout" and southern kingfish a.k.a. "ground mullet" are some of the finest eating fish out there, and when their fillets are fried up golden brown it wonderful dining.

Capt. Robert L. Brodie of TEAM BRODIE CHARTERS
