Morning Outing Nets 80 White Trout & Ground Mullet!

Capt. Robert L. Brodie
October 7, 2008
Mississippi Sound - Saltwater Fishing Report

Last Sunday I decided to make a late morning trip to the oyster reefs in search of a mess of white trout and ground mullet.

A stop at the Ocean Springs Small Craft Harbor Channel Reef delivered the goods! After moving about the reef a bit the main body was located, and 80 nice sand sea trout a.k.a. "white trout" and southern kingfish a.k.a. "ground mullet" succumbed to fresh dead squid.

The bite was fast and furious for a while, and it was nice to make this 5 minute run from the D'Iberville Marina launch to find fish. Short and sweet, but extremely fun and productive!

No, this wasn't a charter trip just my cousin Jeff McAllister, and next door neighbor Paul Manchester out to catch some fresh fish for supper. Late in the season this reef can be extremely productive, and I often stop there as an "ace in the hole".

Cancelled a trip for tomorrow, but hopefully by the weekend things will straighten out a bit. Will keep giving those Florida pompano a shot until they are chased out by cold weather.

The pompano bite has been awesome all summer long, and my clients has been cashing in on that exciting shallow water fishing.

Next season I'll be fishing them hard, and can generally go directly after them, or morning fish inshore, and then head out and catch the pomps on the second half of an all day trip at the beautiful barrier islands.

Pompano and bull reds should still be prowling the isles for a while, and will test the waters as soon as the winds die down once again.

Hey, there is still plenty of excellent fishing here in south Mississippi, so step aboard TEAM BRODIE CHARTERS, and create your own fishing memories.

Below are a few of the recent pompano and bull red catches aboard TEAM BRODIE CHARTERS. Hope you enjoy them, and look forward to fishing with you all in the somewhere down the road.

Regards,
