Black Drum, Big Flounder, & Big Sheepshead Save Morning Bite!

Capt. Robert L. Brodie
November 24, 2008
Mississippi Sound - Saltwater Fishing Report

Today I had the pleasure to guide the Dan Baston group for a morning of fishing. This was one of those days when things just seemed out of sinc. No live bait at the launch, and had to make a run up Fort Bayou for the live shrimp.

Fished there for a while with just 1 keeper speck, and the gnats were fierce. Decided to head back to the outer reefs, and there the bite was dead. The water was 6 degrees colder than the last trip.

Most of the white trout and ground mullet must have moved out to the deeper reefs, but time was of essence and I needed to get them on something that pulled.

Back into the Back Bay of Biloxi where the big sheepshead and black drum delivered some line stripping action. There, the anglers boated 10 really big sheepshead, 1 big flounder, as well as 3 black drum, one pushing 20-pounds.

Like I said the day started out of sync, and when I laid down a rod to net a big fish, something hit the rod so hard it went flying out of the boat. Bye...bye...St. Croix rod and Shimano spinning reel!

Next a rod tip came off! Those of you that fish aboard TEAM BRODIE CHARTERS know that I run a tight ship, good equiptment, and well organized. However, some days things are just bound to go wrong.

But really can't complain, ran a trip with a group of great guys, had fun, and caught a mess of fish despite the pitfalls. By the way, dropped the clients off, and then went back dragging for the rod and reel.

Guess what! I found one, but it wasn't mine. Oh well, that's fishing! Seems now that most of the specks are well into the coastal bayous and rivers, and will now turn my attention in that direction, and always have the drum and sheepshead for a great light tackle fight.

PS: Don't forget to book a guided diving duck hunt with us. A full day hunt for two (2) goes for $450. Our area gives you a good shot at bagging a trophy redhead.

Forgot to download pics. Here are the last 4 largest black drum landed recently in the Back Bay of Biloxi aboard TEAM BRODIE CHARTERS.
