Mississippi Sound - Saltwater Fishing Report

Yesterday fishing conditions were extremely poor. Strong southwest winds had waters all along Mississippi churned to a chocolate hue.

On this afternoon charter my clients were Mic Baxter, Rickey Wilder, and Bobby Zangla from the Louisiana Land Bank. With plenty of fresh dead shrimp from David's Fishing Camp in D'Iberville, MS we headed out to the Ocean Springs Oyster Reef.

There the guys did battle with plenty of big gafftopsail catfish, a few ground mullet, and a nice flounder. However, Bobby hooked into a large fish, and 35-minutes later he landed and released a beautiful 45-pound black drum.

The big fish put up an amazing fight, and pushed the St. Croix rod, and Shimano spinning reel spooled with Yo-Zuri Hybrid 10-pound-test to the limit.
Since there was no way to make it to the reefs we intended to fish in the Mississippi Sound, we decided to make a run into the Back Bay of Biloxi. And there a few small black drum were caught along with plenty of croakers.
Before we headed home a stop at the CSX Train Bridge produced another fine catch, and this time Mic hooked into a big fish, a beautiful black drum in the 25-pound class. Although this afternoon outing was slow, a few big fish saved the day by adding a bit of excitement to the outing.
Sooner or later these winds will have to settle, and when they do expect excellent fishing throughout south Mississippi. Hey, summer is just getting cranked up, so come join us at TEAM BRODIE CHARTERS for a fun and relaxing day of fishing.
Remember...Lifie is short...let;s fish!
