Mississippi Sound - Saltwater Fishing Report

Yesterday I had the pleasure to guide one of my comeback clients Hugh Robinson, along with his grandsons Jimmy Lee and Davey Robinson, and Hugh's friend Mick Cockrell.

Hugh has fished with me many times, and we've boated lots of fish, but this would be their first trip to the Louisiana marsh with me, and their first run in the new 2170 Blazer Bay.

Started out the morning by coming across a huge school of bull redfish in the shallows (hundreds of them), and these brutes were tough to take on the 10-pound-test Yo-Zuri Hybrid line, and St. Croix rods and Shimano spinning reels.

However, the fine tackle held up, and the gang managed to each boat a big fish, and break off a few more in the thick grass. What great fun!
From there we mover to the west of Chino Bay, and these we got into a big school of speckled trout and "yellow mouth" white trout, and proceeded to fill up the live well with fresh fish.
Big gafftopsail catfish and a few big ladyfish added to the action too. It was slick as glass on the big bay, and hot as hell. Since we had a big box of fish, and it was sweltering hot, Hugh decided to cut the trip short. We left the fish biting, and flocks of gulls were feeding all around.
Just when we thought I couldn't get any better, Jimmy landed a 7 to 8-pound tripletail a.k.a. "blackfish" on our way home crossing the Mississippi Sound. What a great was to end the day! Hugh will fish with me many more times this summer, and I hope we continute to keep our fish catching streak alive.
What can I say, there are fish out there for the taking, and the weather seems to finally be getting right. So don't sit there...let's fish!
Today we fished with clacking corks rigged with three-feet of 25-pound-test Seaguar fluorocarbon leader, and finished of with 1/4-ounce jig heads and Cocahow Minnows and Salt Water Assassins. What great fun to pop, and then see those corks suddenly go under.
Regards,
Capt. Robert L. Brodie of TEAM BRODIE CHARTERS
