Mississippi Sound - Saltwater Fishing Report

TEAM BRODIE CHARTERS continues to deliver big catches as fall approaches!

Well, since I got back from a short vacation had 8 trips in a row to run. After a few days of relaxation and no fishing on the brain thought I might lose my touch. Not! The 8 trips were all very successful with over 2000 fish caught and/or releasted in that span.

The bird fishing has been outstanding, and the barrier island fishing was excellent too. At the isles Florida pompano, sharks, and huge Spanish mackerel provided world-class light tackle fun.

The mackerel were caught under popping corks using live bait, and when those corks took off horizontially in the blink of an eye you knew right away it was a speedy Spanish mackerel. Most of these fish are what we dub "horse" mackerel, running 3 to 7-pounds.

The Florida pompano were on the prowl too, and they were still on the prowl in the isle's gorgeous surf. Generally they will head out by the end of October, and hope to get another shot or two at them before the weather turns cold.

Back inshore fishing the birds has been on fire, and my honey holes have been productive too. Beautiful white trout and nice speckled trout have been swarming under the birds, and catches of well over 100 fish a morning has been the norm.

Fishing double soft-plastic bait, especially the "hot" bait had been producing practically two fish on every cast when the bite turns on. Cast to the birds, let the bait sink down, wait for the first fish to hit, and then reel in slowly and wait for the rod to load up with a second fish. Now that's fun fishing!

Oh yeah, the sheepshead are starting to move in too, and the small black drum are starting to bite also. Plus, speckled trout are starting to move into the bays a bit, and when it gets cold we'll catch them in the coastal rivers.

Also, crappie are starting to bite in our coastal rivers, and my parents and I caught caught 17 fine fish two days ago, and that was on dead shiners.

Bottom line, TEAM BRODIE CHARTER continues to deliver big catches day after day, the weather has been awesome, and the fish in south Mississippi are on fire with a touch of fall in the air.
Mississippi Sound Fishing Forecast:

Look for the speckle trout and white trout fishing in the lower bays to stay on fire until really cool weather drive fish either in or out of the bays. Speckled trout fishing in our coastal rivers and bayous will be a hot topic soon. Sheepshead and black drum will begin to amass in the bays as the waters begin to chill down. Barrier islands will continue to deliver some pompano, redfish, and Spanish mackerel for the next couple of weeks. Once the weather gets rather cool, then the sight fishing for huge black drum and bull redfish willbe on tap. Bottom ,ine, there will always be something to bend those rods in south Mississippi. Good fishing!
