Mississippi Sound - Saltwater Fishing Report

On Monday I had the extreme pleasure to guide Capt. Gary Krein from Washington and Capt. Bob Rush of New Jersey to a late aftrtnoon trip on the Back Bay of Biloxi.

These gentlemen were down for (NACO) National Association of Charter Boat Operators convention, and wanted to get out for a while.

It was a good experience talking to captains from other regions, and it was really fun when they hooked up with a couple of nice fish.

Gary landed a really big sheepshead, and he enjoyed the strong fight on light tackle. A while later he landed a nice black drum in the 8-pound range too.
Eventually Bob hooked into a nice fish, and after a battle in a strong afternoon rising tide, a black drum pushing 12-pounds was boated.
Oh yes, they encountered 4 of the huge drum in my honey hole, but they lost all of them, all fish probably 40-pounds or much bigger.
Gary fought one for 15 minutes or more, and we followed the big wise fish as he zig-zagged through and around the gauntlet of barnacle-encrusted pilings surrounding the site.
A frayed line from a leaning piling finally busted the line. However, they had a fun time, and got to get a small taste of south Mississippi fishing.
Anyway, speckled trout are still biting in the rivers, drum and sheepshead are there for the taking, and our duck season closes on January 25, 2009 if you would like to squeeze in a late season hunt.
