Mississippi Sound - Saltwater Fishing Report

Today I had the extreme pleasure to guide Canadian sports editor Tim Baines of the "Ottawa Sun", Nicole Learson from the "Mississippi Gulf Coast Convention & Visitors Bureau", as well as her father James Allmon Sr to 3 hours of fishing in south Mississippi.

The fun group boated and released 10 or so sheepshead, but James landed the big fish of the day.
On a small Shimano spinning reel spooled with 10-pound-test Yo-Zuri Hybrid line, a 7-foot St. Croix "Triumph" spinning rod, and a 2/0 Gamakatsu Octopus hook tied to a 25-pound-test Seaguar fluorocarbon leader, well, James had the fight of his life.
After a 30-minute or more battle, James defeated a monster black drum, well over 60-pounds, and probably close to the state record.
The group was in awe when the big fish finally surfaced during the last 5 minutes of the fight, and the head of the fish barely fit into the landing net.
Didn't have a scale on the boat, but he was definately a monster, biggest fish of the new year so far. If he was in excess of 70-pounds we won't know for sure, but we safely released the brute to fight another day.
With wind gusting out of the north at 15 to 25-knots it was tough fishing, but the group fished hard and were rewarded with some fun light tackle fishing.
