Mississippi Sound, Biloxi & Pass Christian

Capt. Robert L. Brodie
February 16, 2008
Mississippi Sound - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing in south Mississippi is about to really turn on soon, and has been fair considering the amount of heavy rainfall we've endured lately. However, light tackle fishing in the Back Bay of Biloxi as been steady with good catches of black drum, sheepshead, and a few flounders. Fishing live and fresh dead shrimp around bridge pilings has been the ticket to success, and should only improve as the rains stay away.

Here, south of Biloxi, MS many of us are waiting for the big influx of white trout and ground mullet. When this begins, generally around mid March, light tackle anglers will be able to box these tasty fish by the hundreds.

For us guides, this is a great time for family groups, and children will be elated with the fast fish catching action. Anglers wade fishing at the barrier islands have been landing some nice redfish too, and fishermen tossing soft-plastics around the new Katrina Reef have been landing some fine speckled trout as well.

Bottom line, as soon as the weather remains warm for an extended period of time the fishing in south Mississippi will be a hot item. And the good thing is it's only going to get better. Good fishing!
