Capt. Robert L. Brodie
April 14, 2010
Mississippi Sound - Saltwater Fishing Report

SHEEPSHEAD RUN IS ON! WORLD-CLASS SIGHT FISHING & LIGHT TACKLE FUN!

Last FRIDAY (14 sheepshead, 45 white trout & ground mullet, & 1 Florida pompano), SATURDAY (17 sheepshead, 45 white trout & ground mullet), & SUNDAY (21 sheepshead & 1 bonnethead shark) were 3 trips that delivered big time for TEAM BRODIE CHARTERS with all you could catch and/or release of huge sheepshead at the barrier islands.

This is sight fishing the clear shallows in the surf in 1 to 2-feet of water, and it's like casting a shrimp to 4 to 10-pound red snapper using 10-pound-test spinning tackle.

Talk about some light tackle excitement! At times there are literally hundreds and hundreds of the big brutes schooling about, and it's game on when the bite gets hot.

Although there are no limits on sheepshead in Mississippi waters we try to keep the catch to 15 to 20 fish a day for anglers that want to take home fish for the dinner table.

By the way, sheepshead eat well, and when filleted, skinned, and then deboned, well, their flaky white meat frys, bakes, or broils up nicely.

Not for sure how long these fish will stick around in such massive numbers, but it sure is a fun experience to cast to so many big fish swimming about right before your eyes.

Know one thing for sure, my St. Croix Rods, Shimano Spinning Reels, and Yo-Zuri Hybrid line has been put to the test as of late with all of the drag stripping action, but all has held up well, and that's why I use quality gear aboard TEAM BRODIE CHARTERS.

Folks, the fishing is about to bust loose here in south Mississippi and now we are starting to see cobia, Spanish mackerel, flounders, tripletail, Florida pompano, sharks, and jack crevalles starting to show up in the warming waters.

Of course our inshore and near shore reefs are stacked up with white trout and ground mullet, and a few specks are getting in on the action too. Catches of 100 to 200 white trout is a common occurence, and provide some of the finest fried fillets on the planet.

So don't wait to long to book your trip aboard TEAM BRODIE CHARTERS for people are already getting their dates to fish well in advance.

Those pompano and tripletail should be showing up well anytime now so let's go!

Fishing is good and it's only going to get better!

Regards and many thanks to all,
