Mississippi Sound - Saltwater Fishing Report

Late report from Wednesday, Leonard, from Atlanta, was in again this week looking for some fishing time on the water. He had heard about the Pompano bite and wanted to give the Camille Cut area a try. So plans were put in motion and except for a slight 45 minute delay to burn off some fog we were on our way. The morning started with a very light chop allowing for us to make excellent time to Camille cut. We started at the northern most bars and slow trolled on the trolling motor as well as set-up on the occasional drift. Leonard was hooked up within the first 30 minutes, and after some impressive aerial displays, a nice Pompano was quickly landed. Many singles and pairs could be observed darting though the now growing breakers. But only one more Pompano took our shrimp offerings for the day.

The weather was forecast for 1-2 knot winds variable, with 1-2 foot seas, that lasted until about 10 AM. It really started blowing 10-15 knots and we were in constant 2-3 footers with an occasional 4 footer to make the shallow water bars very interesting to navigate over and around. So much for the Acu-Weather Forecast! We did a lot of searching for the schools of reds to show signs of feeding, but they never did rise into an active feeding pattern. The gulls were sitting tight, and the two other boats, who were slow trolling between the bars for reds, weren't having any luck either.

But who can complain about a Carolina Blue Sky day for a buddy trip out to Ship Island and Camille Cut. The Pascagoula is turning on right now. It isn't too late for that nearshore/inshore fishing trip you have been day dreaming about!
This is a great time of the year and a wonderful time to go fishing. Give us a call and we will set up your next fishing adventure!
