Pascagoula River - Saltwater Fishing Report

Early Storm Interrupts Good Fishing
June 12, 2005
An early tropical storm grazed the Mississippi coast and cancelled fishing plans for most of Friday and all of Saturday. The wind and rain were too much to tolerate, even though the fish were probably turned on by it.
Friday morning we did manage a short trip before the rains started. On the very first cast I threw a Bone Producer's Ghost at a shallow point and after a few twitches a big red rolled at it. He missed it the first time, but he immediately turned around and sucked it in on the second strike. The eight pounder put up a good fight, but he was hooked as well as you can hook a fish. He had swallowed my lure all the way into his crushers and had both trebles buried. In fact, I had to cut the line and retrieved my lure later when I cleaned him.
While I was taking my red out of the net, my buddy Joe Licata threw his avacado cocahoe at the same spot and hooked up with a 17" speckled trout. Instead of taking time to tie on another top water lure, I grabbed another rod with a cocahoe tied on and cast at the same spot. Another 17" female speck hit me on that cast. Three nice fish on three consecutive casts. It doesn't get better than that.
We ended up with 6 fat female specks and two nice reds. Not bad for less than two hours of fishing.
