Live Pogies Ready for Action

We're still catching a lot of reds on live bait, and the best news is that the juvenile pogies are now large enough to get their attention. Within the past few days I have started using some pogies along with my usual cocahoe minnows with a lot of success.

The pogies are an oily fish and can widen your fishing range with their strong smell. Also, they are a flashy fish that increases the chance of being seen by the predatory species. There's not a better bait out there in my book.

We're still catching some nice specs on top water early in the morning. Some days are better than others, but all of the fish are nice size in the 2 to 5 pound range.

The flounder are all nice size too. We're catching flounder in the 2 to 3 pound range with an occasional 3 to 5 pounder mixed in. This week we caught a flounder that had two tops! I've never seen anything like it in all the years I've fished these waters. This fish looked normal on top (brown), but the bottom was all brown except for the head which was the normal white color.
