Mississippi Sound & the Pascagoula River Marsh

Capt. Barry Brown
November 20, 2006
Pascagoula River - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fall School Trout Everywhere!

Our most recent cold front brought some much needed rain to drive the salt water down the river and into the marshes. The speckled trout were pushed down the river as well and are now in their usual fall holes in good numbers.

These trout range from 13 inches to about 17 inches, and about two out of three are above the 14 inch minimum length. That's a pretty good ratio. November 18 I went with a friend for a few hours and had a limit of 30 within three hours. We caught them on a chartreuse cocohoe jig.

The larger speckled trout are still in the area, but live bait is the best way to get them right now. You can also get the big trout to hit top water early in the mornings.

The redfish have taken a break over the past week. We've caught a few, but nowhere near the numbers we were catching in October. I guess I need to go look for them again.

We're expecting the rest of November and all of December to be good for a lot of trout action on jigs. Let's go fishing!
