Mississippi Sound & the Pascagoula River Marsh

Capt. Barry Brown
December 4, 2006
Pascagoula River - Saltwater Fishing Report

Winter Pattern Trout

Thanksgiving weekend was a bonanza of non-stop trout action with some 5 to 10 pound reds mixed in. The trout held on a deep water oyster reef for several days.

We fished the 12 foot depth with chartreuse 1/4 oz cocohoe jigs. The presentation was slow or none at all to catch the best trout - 18 to 20 inchers. Most of the trout were in the 13" to 15" range, and it was every cast.

Since then those trout have moved up river and we have not found them as thick anywhere yet. The temperatures have been much colder since Thanksgiving, so they may be deepening a little more. We'll keep looking for them.

Now that the water temperatures have reached the winter chill we will be dragging deeper sections of the river for the big trout. We should start catching the 3 to 5 pounders in a few of my favorite deep water holes.
