Pascagoula River - Saltwater Fishing Report

Redfish Moving Shallow
Last week we were catching our reds around dropoffs in 5 to 10 foot depths. This week the reds have been in the lakes running the shallow grass lines. The difference? Last week the water temperature was 52 to 54 degrees. This week it was up to 60 degrees.
It is now time to get busy trolling the marsh banks casting for reds with spinners, spoons, Tsunamis, or just a plain old cocohoe tail on a jig head. It doesn't matter much what you throw, as long as you cast it to the bank and retrieve it all the way back to the boat. The reds are more likely to be right against the grass, so be ready for the strike right after you start retrieving. But, don't ever give up on a cast. Remember, your boat is sitting in about three feet of water in these lakes, so the reds often are out in the open away from the grass line.
The specks have been a little slow over the past week, but that will soon change in a big way. March will bring large numbers of school trout to all the usual spots. We'll be throwing cocohoe jigs mostly then.
We are also starting to see a few flounder moving in. If you're interested in catching flounder then book your trip between April and November.
