Pascagoula River - Saltwater Fishing Report
Top Water Still Producing Excitement
We had a rise in the river due to rains to our north about 10 days ago. That fresh water coming down slowed down the trout for several days, at least in the areas we had been catching them. Now the water is clearing up and the salinity is returning nicely.
The trout are moving back to the flats where we like to fish our top water lures. It's been a little slow the last few trips, but the trout we are catching are between 2 and 5 pounds. It doesn't take many of those to make a trip successful, especially when you get to catch them on top water lures.
The reds are scattered for some reason, and we are having to move around a lot to accumulate a mess of them. We'll catch 1, 2, or maybe 3 in a hole and have to move on.
Flounder are showing up in good numbers and are now a nice average size. The bigger ones will keep moving in and we'll see some up to 7 pounds before the fall. Most of them will be the 1 to 3 pound range.
I'm looking forward to the next several weeks. Last year my best spring catches came during late April through teh end of May.
